The Pinehurst Pilgrimage
The Cradle of American Golf and a permanent U.S. Open site, with No. 2's diabolical turtle-back greens at its heart. A whole village of golf in the Carolina sandhills, designed to be walked and remembered.
The case for itWhy It's a Pilgrimage
Donald Ross lived here, built here, and refined No. 2 for decades — it is the closest thing the sport has to a living museum you can actually tee it up on. The 2024 U.S. Open restoration brought back the sandy native areas and made the greens meaner than ever, and the surrounding courses (No. 4, No. 8, the Pine Needles–Mid Pines pair) turn a single round into a week. It is American golf's spiritual home and demands a visit at least once.
